Strong Acid and Weak Acid:
Those acids which completely dissociate into H + (aq) and negative ions when dissolved in water are called strong acids. Example- HCl, HNO 3 and H 2 SO 4 |
Those acids which partially dissociate into H + (aq) and negative ions when dissolved in water are called weak acids. Example- CH 3 COOH and H 2 CO 3

1. Acid : An acid can be defined in such a way that the substance which contains hydrogen and which gives hydrogen ions when dissolved in water is called acid.
Example- HCl is dissolved in water to give H + (aq) and Cl – ion.
Strong Acids: Acids which completely dissociate into H + (aq) ions and negative ions when dissolved in water are called strong acids. such as nitric acid (HNO 3 ).
2. Base and Base : A substance in which hydroxyl group is present and which when dissolved in water produces hydroxyl ion ( OH – ), is a base. Example- OH- group containing substances; For example, NaHO and KOH, when dissolved in water completely dissociate to give OH- ions .
Those bases which are soluble in water and whose molecules contain hydroxide ions are called bases. All bases are bases but all bases are not bases.
Weak bases: Those bases which partially dissociate into OH – (aq) ions and Cu ions when dissolved in water are called weak; NH 4 OH|

1. One who is indifferent
2. Which is alkaline in nature
3. Which is acidic in nature
(i) The pH of a neutral solution is ‘7’.
(ii) The pH of a solution of alkaline nature ranges from 7 to 14.
(iii) The pH of a solution of acidic nature is less than ‘7’.
